A couple in Vijayanagar, Bengaluru mistakenly immersed a Ganesh idol along with a gold chain worth ₹4 lakh recently! Once they realised that they had forgotten to take off the expensive ornament, they rushed to the mobile water tank where they performed the visarjan ritual. After 10 hours of extensive search with around 10 people helping in the process, they were able to find the 60-gram gold chain.

Ramaiya and Uma Devi from Vijayanagar, Bengaluru welcomed Ganpati to their home on Ganesh Chaturthi with full enthusiasm. They even decorated the idol with a 60-gram gold chain worth ₹4 lakh. However, when they went out to immerse the idol in a mobile water tank near Dasarahalli Circle, they forgot to take off the gold ornament! As per a News18 report, it was after an hour of completing the visarjan ritual that the Bengaluru couple realised their mistake!

They rushed back to the venue and started searching for the gold chain. Reportedly, a few people saw them immersing the gold-adorned idol but thought it was fake jewellery. The couple sought help from the Magadi Road Police Station, Govindraj Nagar MLA Priya Krishna, and Lankesh D, the contractor who had set up the water tank for immersion.

How People Helped To Recover The Ornament

With the help of police, local MLA, the contractor, and around 10 people, the couple was able to retrieve the gold chain! Initially, a few young boys tried to look for the chain inside the tank but were unsuccessful. The authorities then decided to drain out the tank containing 10,000 litres of water.

Finally, after 10 hours of extensive overnight searching, the gold ornament was later found amidst the soil remnants from other Ganesha idols. Reportedly, 300 idols were immersed in the tank, so the people had to dig through a huge amount of soil. It was then returned to the couple in the morning.
