On Tuesday, Bengaluru’s civic body inaugurated the city’s first underground electric transformer at Malleshwaram. The reason behind this inauguration and idea was basically to retain the beauty of the city and also ensure people’s safety.

The city’s civic body and electricity board joined forces on Tuesday to dedicate Bengaluru’s first underground electric transformer at Malleshwaram. The purpose of the subterranean electric transformer is to retain the attractiveness of India’s garden city while also ensuring public safety.
The government is preparing to install more of these underground electric transformers in the city, which are typically found on a sidewalk or by the side of a road, according to Karnataka’s energy minister, KJ George.
He said that Bescom would eventually replace all of Bengaluru’s HT overhead wires with underground connections. Additionally, the entire system—including distribution transformers, ring main units, feeder pillar boxes, etc.—will be converted into an underground system as a result of this.

Smart Subterranean Distribution Infrastructure
As a result, the public is encouraged to utilize the walkways without difficulty because they won’t be disrupted by maintenance work being done on the overhead cables and other connected equipment. The minister noted that doing this will protect the electrical equipment from extreme weather variations, including cold, heat, and rain.
The minister emphasized on the need to prevent visual clutter in Bengaluru. The city is frequented by tourists from around the world. More than anything else, he added, smart subterranean distribution infrastructure is not only cutting-edge. It also significantly reduces visual clutter and enhances urban areas’ aesthetics.
