International Women’s Day is celebrated with pomp and glory in many places. This year, the day witnessed unique celebrations in Bengaluru. The first of the many Akka cafes was launched on March 8 and this was an important step and a positive attempt to promote and empower women’s empowerment. It falls under the Karnataka government’s Livelihood Mission.
First Akka Cafe Opened In Bengaluru’s Gandhi Nagar
Taking to the X platform, Uma Mahadevan Dasgupta (@readingkafka) shared pictures of the newly launched cafe in Gandhi Nagar.
During the celebrations of Women’s Day on Friday, the first Akka Cafe was launched at Gandhi Nagar. This is a crucial initiative of the government to boost women’s empowerment and provide opportunities to work and earn money. According to a report by The Indian Express, the government initiative includes setting up more than 200 similar cafes all around Karnakata. Uma Mahadevan is the Additional Chief Secretary to the Karnataka Government and she inaugurated Akka Cafe.
These cafes will bring ample chances for women to secure financial independence; a necessity for every single person in today’s world. From training women in self-help groups to teaching them necessary skills, this decision comes with an amazing initiative and a significant medium to use their talent in running businesses and earning a good amount of money.
The all-new Akka Cafe in Bengaluru is completely run and operated by women only. Currently, 12 members are running the place. In addition to this team, there are also 5 other people for backup. This new establishment on Kempegowda Road is grabbing everyone’s attention and making the headlines for all the right reasons.

Taking to the microblogging site, PARI (@atiiiiisundari) shared how she painted the mural for Akka Cafe.
Akka Cafe opens its doors at 9 AM. It stays open till 9 PM 7 days a week.
It is an incredible chance for women who wish to build their empire and run a business in this specific industry. Everyone coming together to collectively support each other is such a beautiful beginning.
