Having washroom facilities in public areas is quite crucial and should be an egalitarian facility. However, there are a few places that charge you to use facilities. Unless done correctly, such paid facilities can come off as discriminatory. Recently, someone took to Reddit and shared a similar discriminatory experience they had at a famous mall in Bengaluru. This incident brings to light the questionable methods employed at such places. Many people in the comments were furious about it.

The post on Reddit was made a few hours ago. As per the post, the incident happened at Phoenix Marketcity, Whitefield. In the post, the user mentioned that they travelled from Church Street to Whitefield specifically to visit this mall. Before they started shopping, however, they wanted to visit the washroom.
To their surprise, the washroom on the ground floor was labelled “VIP” and not everyone was allowed to use the facilities. There was a lady security personnel at the door who demanded to see a bill. Having just arrived, the user did not have any.
They were then directed to the washroom on the floors above the ground floor. When the users went there, they found that the maintenance of the facilities was subpar. They also learned later on that the bill must be of at least ₹1,000 for you to be able to use the VIP washroom.

As a matter of fact, this very same mall used to have a “mandatory voluntary donation” that people had to pay to use their facilities. Many people called the practice questionable and were furious about it.
Have you ever had such an experience? How do you feel about such basic facilities being paid instead of free for all to use? Let us know in the comments section below!
