He is seeking ₹50 lakh for the “physical agony and emotional trauma”. Scroll on to know more about this.
Bengaluru Man Complains About Poor City Roads
Dhivya Kiran, a resident of Bengaluru’s Richmond Town, served a legal notice to the city’s civic body. In the notice, he demanded a compensation of ₹50 lakh because of the severe health issues caused by neglected and crumbling roads in the city. As per his claim, he has endured a lot of physical pain while commuting through Bengaluru’s poor roads.
In the notice, he said that despite being a tax-paying citizen, he has been subjected to “continuous physical hardship and mental agony”. He called out BBMP’s “blatant failure to maintain basic civic infrastructure,” and mentioned the “deep potholes, broken and uneven pathways, and unmotorable road surfaces.”
The legal notice was served to the civic body on May 14.
In it, the Bengaluru man mentioned that due to the dangerous condition of the roads, he is “unable to travel in autos or two-wheelers”. Furthermore, even cab rides are uncomfortable. All in all, the city’s road conditions and its impact on his health have limited his mobility and independence. He said that this is impacting his personal and professional commitments as well.

Seeking Compensation For Health Issues
The notice also gives details of all the physical agony Dhivya has suffered because of the poor road conditions in Bengaluru. He said that he suffered “severe neck and back pain, which has been medically linked to the jerks and trauma caused while commuting on these treacherous roads”. The notice also talks about the five visits to orthopaedic specialists and four emergency visits to St. Philomena’s Hospital.
He elaborated that he had to undergo treatments to relieve his pain. That’s not all, Dhivya also experienced “episodes of crying out in pain, loss of sleep, anxiety, and mental distress”. All this has severely affected his daily life.
In the notice, he has asked BBMP to pay ₹50 lakh within 15 days for “medical expenses (past and anticipated), emotional distress and mental anguish, physical suffering and loss of normal life, costs of travel for medical consultations,” and the “overall trauma caused by your failure to maintain public roads.” Furthermore, he also asked for payment of ₹10,000 towards the legal notice charges.
