Bengaluru folks, looks like you will have to wait a bit longer to travel by the Namma Metro’s Green Line in north Bengaluru that stretches between Nagasandra and Madavara. As per an update, the commercial operations on the 3.7-km, fully elevated extension of the Bengaluru Metro Green Line are likely to begin by September end. This delay is due to pending final testing of equipment and infrastructure on this stretch.

After missing multiple deadlines, the Bengaluru Metro Green Line extension from Nagasandra to Madavara will miss its July-end deadline as well. As per a report in The Hindu, the commercial operations on the 3.7-km stretch are now likely to begin from September-end. According to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials, testing of various equipment and infrastructure is pending on this project which has led to this delay.

While talking to The Hindu, a BMRCL official mentioned that the work on the track is complete. However, final testing remains. These final tests will take place over the next few days, after which trial runs and an inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety will follow. The southern extension of the Bengaluru Metro’s Green Line was opened in January 2021. When this line is further extended to Madavara (BIEC), the entire Green Line will span 33 kilometres.

Metro Extension Misses Yet Another Deadline

Construction of the 3.7-km, fully elevated extension of the Namma Metro’s Green Line in north Bengaluru from Nagasandra started in 2017. The stretch was expected to be completed by mid-2019. However, due to setbacks like land acquisition and COVID-19 lockdown, several deadlines were missed. The latest deadline was set for July-end, which has now been extended to September-end.

The elevated route on Namma Metro’s Green Line will have three stations – Manjunathnagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara. Once operational, this stretch will offer great respite to the locals. Especially in areas like Manjunathanagar, Chikkabidarakallu, Madavara, Tumkur Road, Anchepalya and Jindal Nagar as the travel time to Nagasandra Metro Station will be reduced.

Yet another deadline was set for this metro line extension. We’d have to wait and see if BMRCL is able to keep up with this new deadline. What are your two cents on this? Let us know in the comments.
