For news mothers, commuting from one place to the other truly becomes a hassle. It is a common challenge to find suitable spaces to nurse their babies in public settings. Well, with this new initiative, Bengaluru Metro is addressing and solving this problem. These baby feeding centres are introduced by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) in collaboration with NGOs.

According to the reports from Deccan Herald, they are currently operational at five Metro stations in the city: Baiyappanahalli, Majestic, Yeshwantpur, Kengeri, and Yelachenahalli. These stations were chosen strategically to cater to higher-traffic areas where mothers are likely to need such facilities.

These centres are typically an 8 x 8 room that can comfortably accommodate four mothers at a time, as per the reports from Hindustan Times. These rooms are also equipped with broad benches, spacious enough for them to rest or even lie down while nursing. The design of the space has been thoughtfully created with the comfort of the mothers in mind.

Definitely no mother would want to feed their baby in an unhygienic setting. With the focus on cleanliness, the space will definitely not disappoint. While this facility is currently available only at five stations, if a mother needs a baby feeding centre where it is not available yet, they can easily reach out to the customer care team and gain access to a private space.

These baby feeding centres in Bengaluru will definitely solve the problem for new mothers facing the lack of designated areas for breastfeeding in public spaces. The convenience and accessibility of the centres will contribute to the overall well-being of both the mother and the child.

According to the reports from the Deccan Herald, the BMRCL is certainly committed to expanding these facilities to more Metro stations across the city. This initiative is also a promising example of how public transportation systems need to work on their inclusivity standards and cater to the needs of diverse groups, making everyday commutes easier for everyone.

With their future expansion, these centres will make commuting a more inclusive experience.
