The expressway between Bengaluru and Mysuru is one of the major roadways in the Indian state of Karnataka. This particular expressway is used by lakhs of people who travel daily between the two cities. Recently, the National Highways Authority of India or the NHAI has barred the entry of two-wheelers, autos, and many other kinds of vehicles on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway. This barring hasn’t been taken well by the people whom it is affecting. Here are the details.
Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway Bans Two-Wheelers
The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway has witnessed an alarming number of accidents lately. Considering this, the NHAI has decided to bar vehicles like two-wheelers, autos, tractors, and multi-axle hydraulic vehicles as well as quadricycle, according to an article recently published by News18.
This announcement was made on the 12th of July in a notification issued by the office of NHAI. The aforementioned types of vehicles will now have to take the service road instead of the expressway. This move has been undertaken to reduce the frequency of accidents on the highway.
To give readers a rough estimate, in the last six months, there have been a total of 296 accidents resulting in a whopping 132 deaths, as per the News18 article. The reason for such a high number of accidents is because of the callous driving which has been observed.

Given that the road was very convenient for many travellers, the new mandate has ruffled the feathers of many commoners who travel via the expressway on their bikes. Many people are questioning the reasoning behind this ban.
People have alleged that the purported callousness has been showcased mostly by truck drivers, yet it is two-wheelers and such vehicles that are being banned. This has left people wondering if the expressway is meant only for rich people not for the middle class.
The expressway is 118 kilometres long and was inaugurated on the 12th of March by the Prime Minister of the country. The NHAI notification reasoned that fast-moving vehicles may be a threat to a certain type of slow-moving vehicles but many are not satisfied with the reasoning.
