In a recent inspection of roadside food stalls in Bengaluru, 406 vendors across the city were slapped with notices and fined for seriously violating hygiene and quality standards. These inspections were part of a state-wide campaign to mark World Food Safety Day on June 7.
Street Food Stalls Slapped With Notices In Bengaluru
Street food in India is an integral part of daily life, and we all enjoy it. But in a recent turn of events, the Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration issued notices to 406 vendors across Bengaluru for violating hygiene and quality standards. As per a report in Udayavani, this happened after the department carried out inspections across Karnataka in June 2025.
The inspections did not just target street food vendors but also hotels, restaurants, and medical stores to ensure food safety, hygiene, and regulatory compliance. The department conducted these checks as part of the World Food Safety Day campaign held on June 7.

Fines Imposed, Licences Suspended
According to Udayavani, the department collected around 95 food samples from 184 bus stands and 871 food shops across Karnataka, all of which were sent to laboratories for analysis. Notices were issued to 216 food outlets, and a total fine of ₹55,000 was imposed on violators. Officials collected around ₹44,500 in penalties from the vendors who were found serving low-quality and unhygienic food to customers.
Moreover, the department also conducted checks at 720 hotels and restaurants. 183 of them were served notices for poor kitchen hygiene and low food quality. Additionally, authorities inspected 2,544 medical stores in June. The authorities suspended licences of 133 stores and cancelled 20 due to regulatory violations. The Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration has now urged all food and drug outlets across the city to follow safety and hygiene norms to protect public health.
