Bengaluru Techie Makes AI Roti Checker As A Joke But Goes Viral; Netizens Say, “China Has DeepSeek, We Have RotiChecker”

AI Roti Checker

An Indian software developer from IIT Kharagpur has created an amusing artificial intelligence tool that measures the roundness of rotis. Understandably, this sparked a lot of interest and amusement. Even though it began as a joke, the project started to show promise and the techie decided to capitalise on it while he could. So, the AI Roti Checker began in earnest. Since then, the techie’s post has garnered a significant amount of attention.

The project began when a woman shared a photograph of her nearly-perfect roti with the caption “Gol roti banana bhi ek art hai” (making round rotis is an art). The post was shared on X (formerly known as Twitter). The IIT graduate responded by analysing her roti using his creation.

The Rotichecker.ai awarded it a score of 91 out of 100. He playfully promised to make the tool public if his post received 420 likes, later sharing Google Trends data showing significant search interest in “Roti Maker”. The concept sparked enthusiasm among social media users.

The developer admitted to creating the AI model as a lighthearted project in his spare time, but soon began jesting about seeking investors. He offered 10 per cent equity to secure the domain name. His website teased visitors with the tagline “RotiChecker.ai. Dough or Die: The Great Gol Roti Challenge”.

This Is How Netizens Reacted To The Innovative AI Tool

Some suggested similar AI tools for other Indian cuisine, including “Dosa Checker” and “Chai Colour Checker”. The project faced criticism when some users labelled it “misogynistic”. The creator swiftly countered these allegations by highlighting that men were also using the platform to analyse their rotis.

He stated, “Who said this platform is only for women? If you assumed that, then that’s your own misogyny showing, not mine”. The post garnered over 450,000 views on the micro-blogging website, generating mixed reactions.

While many were intrigued by the novel application of AI, others dismissed it as “useless”. One user wryly commented, “US has ChatGPT, China has DeepSeek. We have rotichecker.ai”, while another questioned the tool’s utility, noting that thickness, rather than shape, was more crucial for taste.
