The Bengaluru Traffic Police has paused the PublicEye app, which was earlier used for reporting violations of traffic regulations. Instead, citizens are now encouraged to switch to the BTP ASTraM app, an advanced platform with a range of traffic-related services such as live updates, payments of fines, and reporting of incidents. PublicEye, launched in partnership with iChangeMyCity, provided users with a facility to report offences such as parking without proper authorisation, motorcycle riding without helmets, and signal jumping. But the authorities have now chosen to shut down the platform in favour of BTP ASTraM, which has more features.
Why Bengaluru Traffic Police Is Promoting BTP ASTraM
The Bengaluru Traffic Police is working towards consolidating a number of services on one platform, and citizens will find it convenient to report and follow up on traffic-related issues. The BTP ASTraM app for Android and iOS enables citizens to:
- Report traffic offences supported by photo and video proof.
- Check and settle traffic rule violation fines.
- Get instant traffic updates to plan routes more effectively.
- Get access to road safety rules and regulations.
Through this shift to BTP ASTraM, authorities are hoping to offer an improved system, eliminating the reliance on many apps and simplifying traffic management in the city.
A Step Towards Intelligent Traffic Management
This step of phasing out PublicEye is also consistent with Bengaluru’s overall strategy of smart city development. There are more vehicles on the roads and regular congestion, so involving technology in the monitoring of traffic is the only way forward.
Citizens are also urged to download and use BTP ASTraM actively to report incidents and receive updates on traffic. Authorities have promised that user feedback will be taken into account to further develop the features of the app in the future.
With Bengaluru’s transportation systems being more upgraded, the masses will play a major part in BTP ASTraM’s success. With its updated features, the app also strives to make journeying through the city smoother.
