Many people are constantly on the prowl for new job opportunities. Some, are more desperate than others. Taking advantage of this desperation and trust, several online scammers have been duping people in the UAE out of money. From loans to job offers, here’s how scammers are fooling people and stealing their money.

According to a report by Khaleej Times, it was revealed that new forms of scamming have emerged in the UAE. One of the latest happens to be a loan scam. Therein dubious lending companies ask their victims to first deposit a token amount to secure the loan, after which they demand another payment for releasing the fund. Usually coming up as sponsored posts on Facebook, these dubious companies offer collateral-free loans to expatriates and locals alike. Often targeting people who are in need of money, these scammers never ask for a salary certificate or bank statement thereby fooling desperate people. In fact, people already have been duped out of up to AED50,000.

They Often Scam Through Job Offers Messages On Whatsapp & Loan Offers

In fact, the report mentions that the corporate-commercial department at Gulf Law, which handles cases of duping, has already been assisting 20 victims on a monthly basis. This is a troubling increase and the fraudulent scams also include part-time job offers through WhatsApp. Yes, a fake job offer scam is circulating through WhatsApp and other messaging platforms. Promising higher income for minimum work, victims have been required to provide personal information and pay a fee to get started. Once the fee is paid or the information is given, the scammers vanish into the air.

So, don’t forget to be aware of these scammers and make sure to thoroughly check before falling for such fraudulent messages and calls.
