And looks like even entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw got fed up with the city’s traffic. In a post on social media platform X, she shared that she recently travelled on the Namma Metro Purple Line, and it was a great way to avoid Bengaluru traffic.
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw Picks Namma Metro Over Luxury Car
Biocon founder and billionaire Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw recently travelled by taking the Bengaluru Metro from Whitefield to Vidhana Soudha to avoid the city traffic. Ditching the luxury of a car, she opted to take the Purple Line with her “Namma Metro friend” Jennifer Erich. She fondly introduced her friend as the “Iron Lady of Exxon Mobil”.

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw decided to take the Bengaluru Metro to sidestep the city’s infamous traffic congestion. She took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her experience. From her post, it appears that she was successful in achieving this feat! In the post, she described travelling in a metro as a “quick way to avoid traffic.”
She was pleasantly surprised at the efficiency of the metro journey and even praised and thanked the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited for their service. Summarising her experience, she called it a “great ride”. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw also shared a selfie from the metro station to document her journey.
Jennifer Erich also responded to the X post and said, “So happy to be your Metro Mentor!! Thanks so much for joining me at my office today!”

Netizens Appreciate Her Humbleness
The internet is quite impressed by the humbleness of billionaire Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw for her decision to take the Bengaluru Metro over the comfort of a private car. Many netizens praised her for leading by example and lauded her decision to use public transport.
“That’s some good PR for @OfficialBMRCL. Make your consumers the brand ambassadors. Thanks to @kiranshaw for leading the way. Take public transport when you can, you will know what you will be achieving with it,” one of the comments read.
“Good to hear. We need more public transport used by the rich and famous in Bengaluru to wean people away from their vehicles,” another shared.
One of the netizens reminded people of Gustavo Petro’s famous quote– “A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars. It’s where the rich use public transportation,” and thanked Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw for travelling in the Bengaluru metro.
