BKC Pod Taxi: From Routes To Stations, Here’s All About This Much-Awaited Transportation Project In Mumbai

In India, initiatives for travel and transit development are always ongoing. Every other day, we witness some development in India’s transport infrastructure. However, a whole new ball game has entered the transportation industry with Mumbai’s BKC pod taxi project. For the BKC pod taxi project, media house Mid-Day has obtained a list of 38 stations that will be close by and connect significant business area buildings.

Routes Covered By BKC Pod Taxi

38 proposed stations are part of the Techno-Economic Feasibility Study (TEFS), whose first phase is anticipated to be finished by 2027. The project will include 54 stations; the first phase will connect the Bandra and Kurla suburban railway stations. Each station in the project will have two main terminals next to it. It is anticipated that 54 stations will be completed by 2041.

The pod taxi service will link two stations to a number of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) locations, such as the family court, Kalanagar Junction, NSE, the Regional Passport office ONGC Building, Godrej BKC, Jio World Centre, Bharat Diamond Bourse, SEBI, and more.

The comprehensive TEFS includes the proposed stations, alignments, design, cost, and economic benefits. Sai Green Mobility Private Limited intends to build 38 stations at a cost of more than Rs 1,000 crore.

By 2041, the TEFS will project a 13.5-kilometre circuit with 54 stops, comprising two interchanges at MTNL and NABARD, three terminals at Bandra, Kurla, and Sion railway stations, and 49 stations. The terminals will be built near suburban stations, although the interchanges will serve Metro passengers at MTNL and NABARD.

More About This Project’s Initiation

In order to provide a last-mile connection between suburban trains and Metro stations to BKC, the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has announced this pod taxi initiative.

The MMRDA-commissioned TEFS, which was peer-reviewed by Tata Consulting Engineers, served as the basis for the decision. Ultra PRT, a technology provider with a track record of success that includes the operating Pod Taxi system at London’s Heathrow Airport, was given the project alongside SGMPT.
