Buckingham Palace’s famous balcony has been witness to many landmark occasions over the last few decades. But what lies behind the balcony? Well, you can now find out because Buckingham Palace has decided to open the room behind the famous balcony to the public for the first time. From July 15, many rooms in the Palace’s East Wing will be open to the public for the first time and the room behind the balcony will be one of them.

From coronations to weddings, the royal family has been seen emerging to the famous balcony of Buckingham Palace on every important occasion. But while there are many images online of the balcony, the room behind has always been kept under wraps. Well, not anymore! The room will be open for public viewing for the first time from July 15.

The summer opening of Buckingham Palace this year began on July 11. After this, the Palace announced that they would open several rooms in the East Wing for the public for the first time, including the room behind the famous balcony. According to a report in Hindustan Times, the Palace’s east wing will be open to the public for the first time in 175 years. Almost 6,000 tickets for the new tour, which includes viewing of the East Wing rooms, have already been booked!

Things To Watch Out For In This Room

This room behind Buckingham Palace’s balcony has a newly restored glass chandelier resembling a lotus flower. The room also has two 18th-century Chinese wall hangings that were presented to the royal family by the Chinese emperor Guangxu in 1897. Additionally, Jonathan Yeo’s new portrait of King Charles III and some artefacts showcasing historical events are also displayed in this room. It is to be noted that the visitors will not be allowed to step onto the balcony during the visit. You can book your tour of the palace here online.
