A very unfortunate incident occurred in Uttarakhand on Sunday. A bus with 28 pilgrims was travelling towards the Yamunotri temple and they met with a horrible accident. 26 passengers lost their lives during this unfinished journey. The bus carrying pilgrims was heading out from the Panna district of Madhya Pradesh to reach the destination. The gruesome incident took place in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district.
Bus Carrying Pilgrims Fell Into A Gorge
It was almost 7:15 pm on Sunday when the bus fell down into a gorge near Rikhavu khadd area on the Yamunotri National Highway. The bus faced the terrible accident at a distance of almost 70 km from Yamunotri Dham. The bus carrying pilgrims had a total of 30 people, including 28 passengers, 1 driver, and 1 helper. 26 people lost their lives and the other 4 people were injured heavily. It is said that the driver fell asleep during the journey. In fact, it came to light that this was the driver’s third non-stop trip.

Shivraj Singh Chauhan, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, reached Dehradun after the accident. He reported that things were getting prepared to send the bodies to Khajuraho. He also shared that Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, will reach the place of the incident with him on Monday.

Ministers Shared Their Condolences
Everyone is in utter shock with the sudden unfortunate accident. President Ram Nath Kovind took the Twitter platform and shared his condolences to the family members of the ones who lost their lives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences to the loved ones of the deceased. He tweeted to express his grief and also announced a compensation of ₹2 lakh for every family. The families of the deceased will receive a compensation of ₹2 lakh each. Also, the families of the 4 injured people will receive a compensation of ₹50,000 each.
The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in the accident in Uttarakhand. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000 each.
