A tragic and unfortunate accident took place on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway today. A bus ended up colliding with a truck. The accident injured many and even claimed a few lives. The injured have been sent to nearby hospitals for further treatment. Efforts to identify the deceased are still going on. If reports are to go by, the accident was caused because the driver fell asleep at the wheel and lost control of the bus.

Bus Crashes Into Truck On Agra-Lucknow Expressway

According to an article which was recently published by The Week, the accident took place in the wee hours of Tuesday, April 23. Around 5 AM, a bus crashed through a divider on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and collided head-on with an oncoming truck.

It was a sleeper bus originating from Gorakhpur, carrying as many as 40 passengers and was headed to Delhi. The incident left four people dead and 21 people reeling with injuries. The authorities arrived at the site of the accident and carried out the necessary operations.

Many reports suggest that the accident happened because the driver of the bus fell asleep at the wheel. Alarming as the incident is, it is not uncommon. Driver fatigue is becoming a major problem as it leads to accidents such as these.

Injured People Were Sent To Nearby Hospitals For Treatment

Efforts to identify the dead are currently underway. The people who were injured were sent to the Shri Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital Ambedkar Government Medical College which is located in Tirwa. Some people who were more seriously injured have been referred to Kanpur.

The accident highlights the need for increased vigilance on major roads during nighttime. It also highlights how dangerous overworking drivers can be. Since it is speculated that the cause of the accident was driver fatigue, it really puts into perspective the need for better management.

Such incidents also test the emergency preparedness of a particular region.
