Suriya

For this delightful episode, actor Suriya and our editor-in-chief, Kamiya Jani, met at Imlee By Curly Tales & Neeti Goel in Bandra. They relished yummy pav bhaji, bhajji pav, chatpata samosa and more while catching up with each other. Currently, the Indian actor and film producer’s life is oscillating between Chennai and Mumbai for work and personal life and we wanted to learn how was it going. Read on to learn about their Sunday brunch options.

Suriya And Jyothika’s Sunday Brunch At Home

Suriya, a Tamilian, married his then-girlfriend-now-wife Jyothika, a Punjabi-Muslim-Maharashtrian, and have two kids together. With the culmination of Tamilian-Punjabi-Muslim-Maharashtrian in their household, of course, there were going to be conversations about food. So, we asked about his typical Sunday brunch scenes at home.

Suriya delightfully replied, “The butter chicken was always there. Paratha, butter chicken, butter, and lassi are always there on the table. We enjoy it.” The actor stated that his son, Dev, is extremely fond of butter chicken. Honestly, who isn’t?

On the other hand, his daughter, Diya, detests non-vegetarian food. She likes to eat vegetarian food and prefers to relish rice-based dishes. With his typical Sunday brunch spread, the influence of authentic Punjabi dishes is a lot higher than the Tamilian dishes. As foodies, we just love to see North and South Indian dishes coming together on the table.

Continuing on the topic of food, Suriya shared that he has a sweet tooth. He loves to indulge in desserts from time to time. Even when it comes to food, he prefers to satisfy his taste buds with sweeter dishes rather than spicy ones.

One such food item is Idiyappam, a steamed and stringy South Indian breakfast dish made with rice flour. Some people like to pair Idiyappam with ghee, coconut milk and jaggery. We would love to eat this authentic Tamilian dish for our next trip to Tamil Nadu.
