In a bold move that’s got everyone talking, Zomato’s looking to shed its familiar name for something rather more ambitious – Eternal. It’s quite the statement from a company that started with a chap collecting takeaway menus one weekend and uploading them to a website, simply wanting to help his community. That chap was Deepinder Goyal, obviously. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular change in the name of one of the biggest food delivery platforms in the country.
Zomato Is Now Eternal; Deepinder Goyal Announces Name Change
It is clear that Deepinder Goyal’s weekend project from 2007 has grown into something rather spectacular. From those humble beginnings as Foodiebay, then Zomato, the company’s now eyeing its next transformation.
What’s particularly touching is how Goyal speaks about it – he wasn’t chasing profits or dreaming of stock market success. He just wanted to do something worthwhile with his life, a sentiment that surely resonates with many of us.
The name ‘Eternal’ has actually been floating around the company’s corridors for a while now, ever since they acquired Blinkit. They’ve been using it internally to differentiate between the parent company and the Zomato app we all know.
What Does The Company’s Future Look Like Going Forward?
Now, with Blinkit becoming a significant part of their future, they reckon it’s time to make it official. Under the Eternal umbrella, they’ll be running four main operations: Zomato (the food delivery service we’re familiar with), Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure.
The company’s planning to switch everything over – from their corporate website to their stock market ticker – pending shareholder approval, of course. What’s rather endearing is Goyal’s admission that the name ‘Eternal’ actually scares him a bit.
As he puts it, it’s “a tall order to live up to.” There’s something quite human about a CEO acknowledging the weight of such a grandiose name, isn’t it? It’s not just about swagger or success, he says, but about building something that truly stands the test of time.
