Indian flight booking site Cleartrip on Monday announced a data breach involving the information of an unknown number of victims. Cleartrip’s owner Flipkart revealed in a report to The Record that an investigation into the issue is going on. They have hired an outside forensic firm to help with the situation. Numerous Customers Of Cleartrip Received An Email Confirming Their Data Breach
If you are a customer at the Flipkart-owned travel-booking platform Cleartrip, then you need to be very cautious as of now! On Monday, numerous Customers of the travel booking site received an email about their massive data breach.
“This is to inform you that there has been a security anomaly that entailed illegal and unauthorized access to a part of Cleartrip’s internal systems. We are completely mindful that this would be of concern to you. We would like to assure you that aside from some details which are a part of your profile, no sensitive information pertaining to your Cleartrip account has been compromised as a result of this anomaly in our systems. You can choose to reset your password as a precautionary measure,” revealed a letter on the email.
The Travel Booking Site Did Not Reveal When The Breach Occurred
Security researcher Sunny Nehra took to Twitter to share screenshots of stolen files a hacker posted to a private forum. The information in the screenshot indicates the hack took place recently as several file names reference to May 2022. But Cleartrip hasn’t mentioned anything about when the data breach occurred or how many customers have fallen victim to the breach. And that itself is suspicious. When any company or site doesn’t come out clean about the issues it’s facing, there’s always a risk for customers. Indians lose around 3.8 data points per data breach, while the global average is only 2.3. So any data breach calls for you to be cautious as India is the 6th most Data-Breached Country as per surveys.
