On July 26, India marked the 23rd Kargil Vijay Diwas. A special tribute was given to Late Captain Vikram Batra, who was instrumental in India’s victory in the Kargil War. Point 5140 Of Kargil War Renamed As Gun Hill
Point 5140 is located in Drass, Kargil. It has been renamed Gun Hill to pay tribute to the Indian armed forces and the supreme sacrifice of gunners in Operation Vijay in the Kargil War. After nearly a 3-month long battle the Indian Army declared Operation Vijay a victory on July 26, 1999, after battling Pakistani troops in the city mountains of Kargil. Experienced runners who participated in the operation were present at the event.

A Tribute To Gunners In Kargil War
The toughest point in Kargil Gun Hill or Point 5140 was in strong control of the enemy. Captain Vikram Batra launched a brave assault on the enemy, and personally killed four in a hand-to-hand fight. After hours of heavy combat, the highest enemy-occupied post, Point 5140 in the Tololing complex was captured by the Indian Army. Gun Hill is indeed a very integral part of Indian history.
