Running high on the success of Dhurandhar, Aalam Bhai, aka actor Gaurav Gera, invited our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, to his home for a home-cooked meal of Punjabi Kadhi, Aloo Gobhi and of course, Doodh Soda, which he made for her. During the chat, Gaurav Gera revealed that before being an actor, he was actually a dancer. Here’s more to it.
Gaurav Gera Remembers Struggling Days In Mumbai
Actor Gaurav Gera prepared Punjabi Kadhi for Kamiya Jani and even shared the recipe for the same. Later, the duo enjoyed the Kadhi with the hearty homemade spread. The actor spoke about his journey in Mumbai 26 years ago. He recalled how the city was neither too crowded nor flanked by tall skyscrapers. Rather, the buildings were just 4-to 7-storeyed buildings.
For two years, until he got acting gigs in Mumbai, Gaurav Gera revealed he was a dancer. For the first year in Mumbai, the actor was flooded with dancing opportunities. So much so that he forgot he had arrived in the city with a dream to become an actor. “Uss time dancing itna glamorous nahin tha. It wasn’t very high paying.”

The Actor Started Out As A Background Dancer In Films
The Dhurandhar actor recalled being a background dancer for singer Sunita Rao. The biggest reveal included that the actor was a background dancer for a song in Mast, starring Aftab Shivdasani and Urmila Matondkar. “I could dance, and it paid, ” was what the actor said.
In about 1999, Gaurav Gera told Kamiya Jani that he and dancers like him would get paid ₹1000 to ₹2000 per day. Apart from the desi Punjabi meal, the actor even revealed about the possibility of a Dhurandhar 3 in the works, his rise in content creation, and played a fun game too.
