In what was the quietest yet most enriching Sunday Brunch experience, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani met Telugu actor and producer Mohan Babu at his palatial abode in Hyderabad. Having performed in over 500 films and produced 70, Mohan Babu is a force to reckon with. The superstar sat down with Kamiya Jani where they spoke about this admiration for PM Modi, his humble beginnings in Modhugulapalem to even how he taught Shakti Kapoor to recite the iconic ‘Lolita’ dialogue.
Mohan Babu Shares How He Taught Shakti Kapoor The Iconic ‘Lolita’ Dialogue
Over a home-cooked Andhra-style meal served on a banana leaf, Kamiya Jani relished a soul-stirring Sunday Brunch and conversation at Mohan Babu’s 5-acre bungalow. While talking to Kamiya, Mohan Babu made a very interesting revelation that he was the one who coached Bollywood’s beloved comic actor, Shakti Kapoor to recite his iconic ‘Lolita’ dialogue. The actor-producer narrated that he had done a Telugu film Devatha with the late Sridevi.
This film was later adapted into Hindi as Tohfa, starring Sridevi again, Jeetendra and Shakti Kapoor in a comic role. Kovelamudi Raghavendra Rao, who directed both the original Telugu film and its Hindi adaptation, asked Shakti Kapoor to meet Mohan Babu to learn to recite the ‘Lolita’ dialogue. So, Shakti Kapoor arrived at the Telugu superstar’s home to learn the voice modulation for the dialogue.
To Date, Shakti Kapoor Calls Him His Guru
Despite the director being in this midst, the Hindi comic actor humbly wanted to learn from Mohan Babu. So, the Telugu actor said, “Aaoooo Lolitaaa…” Shakti Kapoor met Mohan Babu for the next three to four days to perfect the dialogue delivery, which was later seen expertly on the silver screen. Today, it’s an iconic dialogue that is deeply associated with Shakti Kapoor. “I like him,” said the actor with a wide smile.
Even today whenever Shakti Kapoor meets the Telugu actor, he folds his hands and calls him his Guru. “Mohan Babu, my guru!,” he exclaims said the Telugu producer. He enjoys watching Hindi films as well and shared that Amrish Puri and Pran acted in his banner.
