Ratan Naval Tata, chairman emeritus of Tata Sons and one of India’s most loved business tycoons, passed away on October 9 in Mumbai. He was in critical condition and was under intensive care. His last rites will be performed with full state honours on October 10. For now, his mortal remains have been kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) for the public to pay respect.
Legendary Business Tycoon & Philanthropist Ratan Tata Passes Away
On Wednesday night, India lost one of its most loved industrialists, Ratan Tata. The chairman emeritus of the Tata Group was 86 years old and was undergoing treatment for a prolonged illness at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, confirmed this news.
According to an NDTV report, he called Ratan Tata a “truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation.” He then went on to call the late Ratan Tata his “mentor, guide, and friend.” Ratan Tata’s assistant, Shantanu Naidu, also mourned the loss of his friend in an emotional post shared early this morning on LinkedIn.
The Maharashtra government has announced a day of mourning in the state to honour him. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde also announced that the industrialist’s last rites will be performed with full state honours. According to reports, Tata’s mortal remains will be kept at NCPA from 10 AM to 4 PM on Thursday for public viewing. His last rites will be performed in Worli later in the day, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend.
