We Learned To Make Sushi From Chef Ranveer Brar

As soon as Chef Ranveer Brar entered the restaurant, he was all set to get into his chef avatar and start making some sushi. The first step, of course, was to wash his hands, which he mentioned is the most important part of cooking. Then, he revealed that he would be making three types of sushi with us. The first one was Chirashi sushi, a basic or deconstructed version of sushi that comes in a bowl. He started by seasoning the Japanese sushi rice, called Koshihikari rice.

Sprinkling some togarashi on the rice, he jokingly commented that he was making a Japanese Bhel Puri. Kamiya Jani was extremely attentive while the chef made the sushi, and she was curious to know which ingredients are the most important for making great sushi. Chef Ranveer Brar replied that the two crucial elements for sushi to be great are quality rice and quality fish. If the rice or fish is not of good quality, the sushi will not taste as great as it should.

Next, Chef Brar taught Kamiya how to make Nigiri sushi, the kind commonly found in restaurants in India. First, both of them took some rice in their hands and tried to shape it into a ball, resembling a nigiri. Then, he spread a dash of wasabi and some cream cheese on top of the rice and carefully added a slice of fresh tuna. Finally, he took a thinly cut strip of nori sheet and wrapped it around the sushi, bringing everything together. Honestly, it looked super appetising.
