In the latest episode of Sunday Brunch, we invited celebrity chef Ranveer Brar to Shifuku by Curly Tales. During this fun episode, we talked to him about his culinary journey, enjoyed a fabulous spread of Asian grub, and even learnt how to make sushi! Scroll on to see how it all went down.
Sunday Brunch With Ranveer Brar At Shifuku
“Jo bhi kaam karna unke sath karna jo khushi khushi khate ho aur khilate ho!” These are the profound words of chef Ranveer Brar’s grandfather and we agree with him wholeheartedly. During the latest episode of Sunday Brunch, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani gave the chef a tour of the restaurant Shifuku by Curly Tales, talked to him about his culinary journey, played fun games, and learnt the art of making sushi.
During the restaurant tour, chef Ranveer Brar confessed that every time he visits a restaurant he wants to steal the cutlery there. In fact, he has more than 3,000 plates at home! He was particularly impressed with the interiors of the restaurant. As a fellow restaurateur now, the chef told Kamiya that a good restaurant should capture the customer’s taste buds and hearts. This way, they won’t be going anywhere else!
Of course, with chef Ranveer Brar in the house, we had to ask him to teach us something and he taught us four varieties of sushi–Chirashi Sushi, Nigiri Sushi, and Closed & Open Maki Sushi. Did you know that the chef has a collection of sushi knives that are made with an 18th-century samurai sword?! It was a limited edition collection and he is quite proud to possess it.
Chef’s Incredible Culinary Journey & More Fun
Between all the fun, we got an insight into chef Ranveer Brar’s incredible culinary journey as well. He has donned multiple hats in his career. From being a celebrated chef and successful YouTuber, he is also an actor, a restaurateur, and an artist at heart. The chef loves food and often feels that he happened to become a chef by chance. He felt that every hardship one goes through is prepping them for the future, which often turns in their favour.
Besides making sushi, we also learnt some incredible lessons from Ranveer Brar. “Dusre ke khane main niyat dekho, and apne khane main nuks,” he said. While he doesn’t like anything he makes himself, he makes sure to appreciate the food cooked by others. He feels that the one who makes the food should put good intentions in the food they are making, while the one eating it should be thankful for it. In his own words, “You can put whatever you want in the food, the cycle doesn’t complete if you’re thankless as an eater.”
