Raksha Bandhan is one of the biggest and most unique festivals in India. It celebrates the purest bond there is, that of brothers and sisters. Every year, sisters tie their brothers rakhi as a symbol of their love for one another and a promise of safety and protection from all harm. Chef Vikas Khanna, the beloved celebrity chef, is celebrating Raksha Bandhan at his newest restaurant Bungalow in New York.

Chef Vikas Khanna is “dil se desi” (desi at heart). And so, he had to do something special to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. If you’re a follower of his work, you know that he had a sister, Radhika, who passed away due to an illness. Hence, Raksha Bandhan is an especially poignant festival for him.
He is celebrating it by making special ghevar with sitaphal rabri, marigolds, basil seeds, pistachios and gold leaf along with moringa and rose dust. The dessert is sure to reflect the same sweetness that the bond between siblings is rife with.
He took to his Instagram and shared a number of odes to his sister Radhika. He even shared a glimpse of his rakhi-clad hand which showed that he is still loved by a lot of sisters even if he misses Radhika.

In addition to this innovative and thoughtful dessert, the chef is also giving each and every table an intricately crafted rakhi that the sisters can tie to their brothers. This is surely going to make Raksha Bandhan memorable for a lot of people.
In addition to this, there will also be two rakhi-inspired rangolis complete with ornately decorated flowers. In a video shared on Instagram, Chef Vikas Khanna is seen hard at work making the ghevar desserts at two in the morning.
His dedication towards serving his patrons and his passion for food clearly shine through his work. Happy Raksha Bandhan Chef!
