A Rs.2,300 crore project has been initiated as the second phase of modernisation of the Chennai Airport to increase passenger and aircraft movement.

What Is It?

The Chennai Airport modernisation project phase 2 of Airports Authority of India (AAI) gets a nod from the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC).

What’s In It?

The project focuses on building various infrastructural facilities like solar panels, expanding the domestic and international terminals, and construction of multi-level car parking. Airport officials also want to increase the aircraft movement and the passenger capacity.

Apart from this, there is also a 1.7 MW rooftop power project whose work has already started and ground-based panels which will be completed by next year July.

The Global Investors’ Meet which has been scheduled in September will also look into the upkeep of the airport and other measures like deep cleaning of the entire terminal at a cost of Rs.76 lakh and horticulture work costing Rs. 10 lakh.

There will also be an app to complain about the airport amenities and facilities launching on all Android and Apple phones. This app will send feedback directly to the authorities concerned.
