Chennai is being pelted by heavy rains and thunderstorms. In addition to facing inclement weather, Chennai is also predicted to witness a cyclone. Given the warnings by the India Meteorological Department or the IMD, the city is evaluating its emergency preparedness. Schools and colleges have been shut and the Chennai Metro has added additional services to aid passengers in reaching their destinations. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this coming cycling.

Chennai Cyclone: Metro To Operate Additional Services

According to a post which was recently made on X (formerly known as Twitter), the Chennai Metro Rail Limited or CMRL has announced additional services. These services are to help accommodate passengers who may need to travel during the cyclone.

As per the post, the first service will commence at 5 in the morning and the last train will depart at 11 at night. This means that the total number of services is 47. Prior to this, the total number of services by CMRL was 42.

With this, the headway between two trains on the Green Line is now five minutes. On the Blue Line, trains will arrive every six minutes. The CMRL has taken this initiative in order to provide proactive assistance to the people during the cyclone.

Schools And Colleges To Remain Shut In These Districts

The cyclone is predicted to hit the city on October 15, 16, and 17. Schools and colleges in a number of districts have been shut down. Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chennai, and Chengalpattu are a few of the places where schools and colleges have been shut.

The Chief Minister, MK Stalin, has also asked all the IT companies in the city to allow their employees to work from home. Over the next few days, many regions are expected to be inundated however, officials are positive that they have safety measures in place.
