Poor weather conditions are a major reason for unexpected flight disruptions. Every year, we come across multiple news of flights getting delayed or cancelled due to adverse weather, especially during rainy and winter seasons. On Thursday, a similar mishap was reported as well. A flight from Chennai was scheduled to arrive in Thoothukudi but it made an emergency landing in Madurai. But why did the aircraft change its scheduled destination? Scroll down to know about the unexpected incident.
Flight From Chennai Made An Emergency Landing In Madurai
On Thursday morning, a flight departed from Chennai airport. With onboard passengers and cabin crew members, the plane was scheduled to travel to Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. Though the journey started well, the destination was changed en route. According to a report by Daily Thanthi, the reasons behind the unforeseen change were poor weather and improper visibility. It is risky and unadvisable to land during poor visibility.
With no other solutions in hand, the pilot flew the flight for a few minutes and then made an emergency landing at Madurai airport. After the flight was diverted to Madurai safely, all 77 passengers left the flight. E. V. Velu, Tamil Nadu’s Minister of Public Works, travelled on this Chennai-Thoothukudi flight on Thursday. He was on his way to Kanniyakumari. Following the emergency landing in Madurai, he travelled to his destination by road.
Though the weather conditions were poor and there were visibility issues, the good news is that it was a safe landing. As of now, there are no updates on anyone travelling on the Thoothukudi-bound flight from Chennai suffering any injuries due to the sudden arrival in Madurai.

It Is An Alarming Issue
Now that most parts of India are surrounded by fog in the early morning hours, incidents of flights getting delayed or diverted will be a common incident. Fog and poor weather-related flight disruptions are heard about quite often nationwide. Pollution is a significant cause of smog and poor visibility, triggering changes in scheduled flight journeys.
