Classical Singer Prabha Atre Passes Away Aged 92 On Saturday

The Hindustani classical music industry is in shock hearing the disappointing news of renowned classical singer Prabha Atre passing away at the age of 92. The legendary artist took her last breath on January 13 in Pune. She was admitted to a private hospital in this Maharashtrian city for some of her health issues. Reports surfacing on the Internet state that she passed away in her sleep.

Prabha Atre Suffered From Some Breathing Problems

Taking to the X (formerly Twitter) platform, Rudro Debnath (@itsRudro27) shared about the heartbreaking demise of the legendary singer.

The singer was suffering from some problems regarding breathing. Once her family came to know about the breathing issue, she was taken to a private hospital in Pune on Saturday morning, according to a report by Republic World. Prabha Atre reportedly faced a cardiac arrest this morning when she was taken to the Dinanath Mangeshkar Hospital. But it was already late by the time she reached there. The hospital declared that she was dead. Some of her relatives live overseas. Her last rituals will be done after they reach India, according to a report by ETV Bharat.

Saturday morning turned out to be utterly shocking for the Hindustani classical music world. Prabha Atre is one of the most renowned, loved, and recognised classical singers. Her contributions have been extremely significant always. She was known for being a strong representation of the Kirana Gharana.

She is not only trained in classical music but she completed her education in different fields as well. Along with a doctorate in music, she completed her graduation in Bachelor of Science from Fergusson College and LL.B as well.

The Classical Singer Has Been Conferred With The Padma Awards

Vivek Arya (@Vivek__Arya) shared a beautiful video of Prabha Atre receiving the Padma Vibhushan.

Prabha Atre received the most important honours and awards in her musical career. It was 1990 when she was honoured with the Padma Shri. She was awarded with the Padma Bhushan in 2002. In January 2022, she was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour in India.
