A fresh cloudburst occurred in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul and Spiti on Friday night. The cloudburst triggered a flash flood near Sangam Nullah in the Kaza area. The flood killed a woman who was swept away due to the swollen river. As per a Hindustan Times report, the State Emergency Operation Centre in Shimla confirmed that the woman, Yeshe Zangmo, was washed away and rescuers recovered the body later.
Furthermore, the flood also swept away several vehicles in the area and also a bridge on the Darcha-Shinku La road. The Border Roads Organisation has been deployed to restore traffic on the 16 km-long Darcha-Shinku La road. As per the authorities, the repair could take up to three days.
This incident comes just days after cloudbursts led to flash floods in Shimla, Mandi and Kullu districts. 8 people have been reported dead and 45 missing due to the cloudbursts in these areas.
We hope the rescue teams are able to help the people in these areas and normalcy is restored there soon.
