The expressway covers a direct route between two major cities and links several semi-urban and rural zones along the way. The state government expects this corridor to bring in economic benefits by improving freight transport, encouraging tourism, and attracting industrial investment across the regions it passes through.

Smart Tunnel With High-Tech Features

One of the key highlights of the expressway is its 7.7-km tunnel through the Igatpuri Ghat section. According to News18, this is India’s first smart tunnel equipped with advanced features like emergency exits, fire detection systems, and high-resolution CCTV cameras. The system also includes real-time monitoring and automatic incident response. These upgrades aim to improve road safety and reduce accident response time.
