On Wednesday afternoon, CM Naveen Patnaik inaugurated the Shree Jagannath Heritage Corridor in Puri. He was accompanied by the erstwhile king of Puri, Dibyasingha Deb during this auspicious occasion. Before the inauguration, there was a maha yagna at the temple. It began on Makar Sankranti and culminated today after Dibyasingha Deb offered the ‘Purna Ahuti’ in the yagna. Puri has been decked in flowers and lights to celebrate the inauguration of this corridor.

There was heavy deployment of police around the inaugural venue. As many as 80 platoons – each comprising 30 personnel – were present along with 100 supervisory officers, 250 sub-inspectors, and ASI rank officials around the temple. This was to ensure public safety as many devotees from around the country have come down to Puri to witness this occasion.

This heritage corridor is an important step in the initiative to turn Puri into a world heritage site.
