After the completion of the first phase and partial opening of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, officials are turning their attention to the second phase of the project. This particular phase will also feature a twin tunnel and it will be the first in Mumbai to pass underneath rivers. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about the second phase of this project.

According to an article which was recently published by The Indian Express or IE, these tunnels will be 40 metres below the surface. The second phase will connect Mindspace in Malad to Charkop Gaon in Charkop Gaon.
The second phase will incorporate a corridor that stretches across 22.93 kilometres. It will connect Dahisar to Versova in Andheri. The twin tunnels that are planned by the officials will stretch across four kilometres.
If reports are to go by, the project is estimated to cost ₹16,621 crores. Out of this, a total of ₹5,821 crores will be allocated solely for the twin tunnels. As per an official cited in the IE article, the twin tunnels will begin at Charkop Gaon and will open at Mindspace in Malad.

This is the first set of tunnels in Mumbai that will run underneath rivers. These include Poisar River, Madh Creek and Mangrove Patches. In addition to this, the tunnels will also run underneath the mangrove vegetation. MCRP is one of the most anticipated projects in Mumbai.
The tunnels will be made using a Tunnel Boring Machine or TBM. They will have a diameter of 14.2 metres with entry and exit ramps stretching across 200 metres. The contract for the tunnel construction has been awarded to Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited or MEIL.
