Manish Malhotra To Design New Uniforms For Air India

As the airline continues to soar to new heights, its uniform remains a symbol of excellence. On September 28, Air India made a statement about their collaboration with renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra. Over 10,000 front-line Air India employees, including cabin crew, cockpit crew, ground support, and security staff, will receive new outfits from the renowned designer, who has dressed several celebrities.

This decision was made as part of Air India’s continuing modernisation initiative. By the end of 2023, Air India hopes to start implementing the new look for its uniformed personnel. According to The Telegraph, in order to better understand their unique demands, Malhotra and his colleagues have started meeting with Air India’s front-line workers. They have had discussions and fitting sessions with them.

Sarees may still be an option for uniforms, according to a previous report by Hindustan Times. Indeed, among the options for consideration are ready-to-wear sarees, made to imitate traditional ones without requiring complex draping. Malhotra has also remarked that the new uniform would meet authenticity, wrapped in timeless elegance.

The Air India uniform has witnessed several transformations since the airline’s inception. Air India expanded its international routes and established itself as a global carrier, and the need for a more sophisticated and culturally representative uniform became evident.

While the airline’s cabin crew uniform was symbolic of sarees, Air India’s uniform continued to evolve in the 21st century to meet the needs of a dynamic aviation industry. Over the years, the Air India uniform has become an iconic symbol of the airline.

Designed by renowned Indian fashion designer Ritu Beri, the Air India uniform is a striking fusion of contemporary style and traditional Indian elements. Introduced in 2006, it replaced the older uniform and was met with widespread acclaim for its modern and chic appearance.

The Air India uniform has always set a high standard for professionalism and customer service. However, there’s yet to unfold what ace designer Malhotra has in mind for the airline.
