Coronavirus In The UAE: What UAE Residents Must Know

And sadly, it’s made its way into the UAE too! The Ministry of Health and Community Protection has confirmed that a case has been detected in the UAE. Reports suggest that it was a family who entered the UAE from Wuhan. The ministry further mentioned in a statement that the health of those infected is stable and under observation.

The Coronavirus breakout in China has put the city on high alert. The disease, causing pneumonia-like symptoms has rapidly spread, infecting more than 2740 people and killing 80. Beijing has quarantined 18 major cities and put more than 56 million people on lockdown. Disneyland, movie theatres, McDonald’s and even the Great Wall of China have been clamped down, to stop the spread of the deadly new communicable virus. So here’s everything you need to know about the coronavirus.

What UAE Residents Must Know

The ministry, in a statement said that “the health condition of those infected are stable and they are currently under medical observation.”

Should you worry?

The ministry stressed that the epidemiological investigation centres are working in full swing to detect early cases and the ministry is having a close watch on those affected.

Will schools and other public spaces going to be shut down?

As of now, there is no such announcement. Schools, colleges and all other public places will function normally.

Are passengers being screened at UAE Airports?

Dubai Airport began screening passengers on January 23, and will continue to do so.

Are there any treatments?

Currently, there are no treatments, but therapy will be in place very soon.

What precautions can you take?

Avoid direct contact with those infected

Wash your hands with soap often and Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer

What Is The Coronavirus?

Coronavirus is a family of virus that causes illnesses from a common cold to more severe diseases. Symptoms include fatigue, fever, sore throat, dry cough and later develop into severe respiratory diseases. Coronaviruses are transmitted between animals and people. It’s currently named 2019-nCoV and has not been previously identified in humans. The infection is believed to have started at a seafood market located in the Central Chinese city of Wuhan. Some people working at the wet market were one of the earliest victims of the coronavirus infection which broke out between December 12th to 29th 2019.

Wet markets put live and dead animals and humans in very close constant contact. The Wuhan market which is now shut down used to sell different animals like snakes, marmots, poultry and even exotic animals like bats and reptiles. The exact animal source responsible for this outbreak is not yet identified, but research papers indicate that bats and snakes might be the culprits.
