It’s been five years since the first wave of COVID-19 hit us and disrupted our lives. Now, the virus is coming back across parts of Asia, with a concerning rise in the number of COVID-19 cases. From Hong Kong and Singapore to China and Thailand, the new wave is on the rise, prompting us to put the masks back on and stay vigilant and careful and boost our immunity.
COVID-19 Cases Surge In Asian Countries
Hong Kong is seeing its highest positivity rate in a year. By May 3rd, the city reported 31 severe cases, the highest in the last 12 months. According to Business Standard, the Centre for Health Protection has reported that the percentage of respiratory samples testing positive is now at its highest. More and more residents are heading to hospitals with COVID symptoms. Hong Kong’s famous singer Eason Chan also tested positive. He had to cancel his concert in Taiwan, and his case has certainly heightened public awareness.
Singapore’s Ministry of Health revealed a 28% jump in COVID cases. By May 3rd, the estimated number of infections reached 14,200, and the hospital admissions increased by 30%. According to the officials, this resurgence is because of the waning immunity and not new variants.
China is also seeing a worrying rise in cases, and the Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention noted that the positivity rate doubled over five weeks by May 4th, Business Standard reported. In Thailand, the Department of Disease Control identified two significant outbreaks this year.

Be Careful And Take Precautions
Fortunately, India has not seen a similar surge in cases. As of now, there are only 93 active cases across the country, Business Standard reported. However, the health experts recommend staying cautious and staying updated on developments in newer countries. Even if you are not in the affected regions, it is always better to stay prepared. From practicing basic hygiene to wearing a mask in crowded places, small steps will make a big difference in your well-being.
This new wave reminds us that COVID-19 isn’t fully behind us. These rising COVID-19 cases in Asia are a wake-up call to stay careful and keep protecting ourselves.
