COVID-19 Update: 6 Deaths Reported In 24 Hrs As Active Cases Cross 6,000 Mark In India

In a concerning development, COVID-19 cases are rising sharply in India. According to the latest reports, the country’s active COVID cases have crossed the 6,000 mark. As per the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), around 378 fresh cases with six deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

COVID-19 Cases Cross 6,000 Mark In India

Active COVID-19 cases in India have surged to 6,133. As per the latest data by MoHFW, 769 new infections have been reported in the last 48 hours across the country. Kerala has emerged as the biggest contributor to the fresh infections, followed closely by Gujarat, West Bengal, Rajasthan, and Delhi.

Along with the rising cases, six deaths were reported between Saturday and Sunday. According to Hindustan Times, two deaths were logged in Karnataka, three in Kerala and one in Tamil Nadu. Since January this year, a total of 65 COVID-related deaths have been reported in India. There were about 257 active cases nationwide on May 22. The infections have risen significantly in the last few weeks.

Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Mizoram and Tripura were the only few states that have not reported any new infections in the last 24 hours.

States Put On Alert

Keeping in mind the surge of COVID-19 cases across India, all states have been put on alert. The centre has asked all hospitals to conduct mock drills to check facility-level preparedness. The states have also been instructed to ensure the availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators, and essential medicines.
