A specialised mobile gantry crane used in the construction of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai Bullet Train project skidded from its position. It fell near railway tracks at approximately 11 pm on Sunday, causing significant disruption to rail services throughout Monday. According to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd or NHSRCL, the incident occurred at Vatva near Ahmedabad city when the segmental launching gantry slipped whilst retracting after placing a concrete girder.
Crane Accident At Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Site
According to an article that was recently published by The Hindu Business Line, NHSRCL officials confirmed that no casualties were reported. The erected structure, too, remained undamaged.
However, Western Railway reported that the accident caused a breakdown of overhead equipment supplying power to electric trains. The outage affected the area between the Geratpur-Vatva section of the Ahmedabad division, affecting the downline.
Railway authorities began clearing trains on the functional up line from 1 am Monday. The incident prompted Western Railway to fully cancel at least 27 trains. These include several major services which are as follows.
The List Of 27 Train Services That Are Cancelled
The Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Karnavati Express, Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Double Decker Express, Ahmedabad-Mumbai Gujarat Queen, Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Gujarat Express, Valsad Intercity Express, and the Vatva-Borivali Express.
Additionally, several premium services faced partial cancellations. The Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat and Mumbai Central-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express trains were terminated at the Vadodara railway junction.
The Ahmedabad-Indore Shanti Express was partially cancelled between Ahmedabad and Anand, while the Gandhidham-Indore Superfast Express was cancelled between Gandhidham and Nadiad stations. The Ekta Nagar-Ahmedabad Heritage special service was also partially cancelled between Kanjari Boriyavi and Ahmedabad stations.
Western Railway sources confirmed that five additional trains were rescheduled and six others were diverted to manage the disruption.
NHSRCL officials remain at the site as recovery operations continue to restore normal rail services along this busy corridor linking Gujarat’s largest city with Mumbai.
