According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or HT, the cause of this is the Viswamitri River. This river is home to as many as 300 crocodiles. When Gujarat was battered with heavy rains, the river swole.

This led to flooding in nearby areas which led to the crocodile infestation. Soon, crocodiles were everywhere. So far, officials have managed to capture a total of ten crocodiles. Only two of them have been released back into their habitat and eight are still in captivity.

This is because the officials plan on releasing the crocodiles when the water levels decrease further. A couple of the crocodiles they captured were 11 and 18 feet long. One was rescued near the Kamnath Mahadev Temple and the other from the Zoology department at Maharaja Sayajirao or MS University in Vadodara.
