The tomato prices in the country are a big concern. Such a hike is not only unfathomable; it has also turned tomato-based dishes into a luxury. However, it is not all bad. Ishwar Gayakar still has around 4000 crates of tomatoes on his farm and hopes to surpass his current goal of ₹3 crore.

He shared the story of his massive success with ANI and talked about his perseverance and hard work. He shared that this was not an overnight incident for him. Since about six or seven years ago, he has been growing tomatoes on his 12-acre farm. He even lost a lot of money, but he never gave up on himself. He experienced an ₹18–20 lakh rupee loss in 2021, but he survived. This year, things changed drastically for him.

As per the reports from ANI, Gayakar planted tomatoes on 12 acres of land, and so far, he has sold about 17,000 crates of them for prices ranging from ₹770 to ₹2311 rupees per crate, netting him ₹2.8 crore. He still has a stock of between 3000 and 4000 crates, so his net sales will probably reach ₹3.5 crore. If this is not what success looks like, what does?

While talking about his story, Ishwar expressed gratitude for the blessings and support of his family. He also gave credit for his success to his wife, who helps him with farming. He revealed that he always had the support of his grandparents and parents, and they were all satisfied with the prices they got for the tomatoes this year. Ishwar Gayakar, who has been farming since 2005, took after his father in this line of work. With the help of labour, they increased their farming from one acre to 12 acres starting in 2017. In addition to growing tomatoes, they also grow onions and flowers according to the season.

The Centre recently reduced the wholesale cost of tomatoes from ₹90 to ₹80 rupees per kilogramme in a number of cities, including Delhi, Lucknow, Kanpur, and Patna.
