It’s certainly a happy Diwali for Uttar Pradesh! On Sunday, the UP government set not one, but two new world records at Deepotsav 2025 in Ayodhya. A record-breaking 26.17 lakh diyas were lit at the same place as 2,128 priests performed aarti together for the grand Diwali celebrations! Here’s more on this exciting update.
UP Sets 2 Guinness World Records At Ayodhya Deepotsav 2025

On Sunday, the holy city of Ayodhya shone brighter as the UP government set two world records during the 9th Ayodhya Deepotsav. According to a report by Live Mint, representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records verified the count of diyas using drones, which came to 26 lakh 17 thousand. These diyas were lit at 56 ghats of Ayodhya, including the iconic Ram Ki Paidi. CM Yogi Adityanath also took to his official X account to make this special announcement.
The first Guinness award was for the ‘largest display of oil lamps’. UP Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh and Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat presented the certificate to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. This achievement was made possible through the joint efforts of the UP Department of Tourism, the Ayodhya administration, and Rammanohar Lohia Avadh University.

Largest Number Of People Performing Aarti Together
Uttar Pradesh also received another Guinness certificate for the ‘largest number of people performing aarti together’. The Tourism Department, the district administration, and the Saryu Aarti Samiti in Ayodhya jointly achieved this record. A total of 2,128 Vedacharyas performed Maha Aarti and recited Shlokas on the banks of the Saryu River.
Guinness World Records adjudicator Richard Stenning told ANI that his team was amazed to witness so many diyas lit during Ayodhya Deepotsav 2025 at Ram Ki Paidi. He called it a “truly spectacular thing.”
CM Yogi Adityanath also extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh for 2025, adding that this festival plays an important role in forming the state’s identity on the global stage. Apart from diyas and aarti, a laser and drone show was organised in the evening. Around 1,100 Swadeshi drones projected images of the Ramayana into the sky!
