On Friday, July 25, Chicago faced heavy flooding after strong winds. Yes, the southside was badly affected, and the streets were covered with water and cars were also stuck. With people walking through knee-deep waters, it continued to rain, causing a lot of problems in the area. Here’s what happened.
Chicago Streets Filled With Water After Flash Floods
Flash flood warnings were issued for Central Cook and Southeastern DuPage Counties. Officials had warned of rising creeks, waterlogging, roads and urban flooding, and some areas even ended up receiving up to 5 inches of rain. All of this happened in just a few hours, which triggered flash floods across several parts of the city.
600,000 Residents Warned To Take Precautions
With the visuals now emerging on social media, these show scary sights. About 600,000 residents were warned to take precautions in order to protect life and property, as per a report by the Hindustan Times. People were wading through knee-deep water as rain caused much chaos. The alert, which was sounded at 2:32 PM CDT, was effective until 5:30 PM CDT on Friday. A risk to low-lying areas, roadways and urban zones across the region, the flash flood occurred amid thunderstorm warnings.

This situation occurred at a time when there is ongoing flooding in communities of Cero, Chicago, Berwyn, Downers Grove, Bolingbrook, Woodridge, Oak Lawn, Chicago, and Midway Airport. In fact, neighbourhoods like Palos Hills, Hinsdale, Lemont, Burbank, Brookfield, and La Grange are also included. As it happens, the National Weather Service has also warned that poor drainage and urban settings might make the situation worse.
