Sometimes, just walking up a flight of stairs feels like a workout on some days. So when a team of Dubai Civil Defence firefighters decided to climb Mount Toubkal in full firefighting gear, we were nothing but proud. But these guys didn’t just reach the summit, but also did it in record-shattering style.

Mount Toubkal isn’t exactly a friendly weekend hike. At 4,167 metres, it’s the highest peak in the Arab world and North Africa. The air gets thin, the ground turns icy, and the wind blowing hard makes it impossible to keep up. Now imagine doing all that while wearing 15 kilos of firefighting gear. That’s what makes this achievement so impressive.
The nine-man team powered through the climb in 10 hours and 19 minutes, beating the previous world record of 18 hours. Yes, they cut it nearly in half. That kind of endurance comes from discipline and teamwork.
Brutal Weather? They Kept Going
Temperatures on the mountain dipped to –12°C, winds pushed beyond 35 km/h, and the snow made every step a test, as mentioned in a report by Gulf News. But the team kept a steady rhythm. No stepping back. just pure commitment to reaching the top and raising their nation’s flag on a day that already carries great pride, the UAE’s 54th National Day.
Meet The Record-Breakers
These are the men who carried the UAE’s spirit of courage to the summit:
- First Lt. Omran Abdulrahman Ahli
- First Lt. Mayed Mohammed Al Muhairi
- First Lt. Issa Abdulrahman Al Mutaiwi
- Warrant Officer Saud Ahmed Al Shehi
- First Sergeant Hareez Ali Mohammed
- First Sergeant Mayed Mohammed Darwish
- First Sergeant Omar Jumaa Al Salfa
- Corporal First Class Saeed Mohammed Darwish
- Corporal First Class Yousef Ahmed Al Jasmi
A National Gift, Not Just A Record
Major General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Civil Defence, dedicated the achievement to the UAE’s leadership and people. He called it a reflection of the country’s spirit.
