Dubai RTA, in its recent post, mentioned how it has awarded two contracts worth AED1.161 billion. This contract is to develop Al Meydan Street. It is a major road project that has been designed to improve the traffic flow and connectivity across key areas in Dubai. Here’s all you need to know about the project, which would create a strategic supporting corridor for Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.
Dubai RTA Awards Contracts Worth AED1.161 Billion
The new 2028 Project would include 17 km of upgrades and new roads, and 3.7 km of bridges. This also includes cycling tracks that would connect to Dubai’s existing cycling network. In fact, it would also serve residential and development areas that have a combined population of over 500,000.
Reducing journey time is one of the key benefits. Yes, travel between Al Manama Street and Dubai-Al Ain Road and Umm Suqeim Street would be reduced from 30 minutes to just 10 minutes, which is a 66% reduction. Moreover, the project would also improve traffic distribution and enhance mobility in key areas.
The First Contract Covers 14 Km Of Al Meydan Street

It should be noted that the work has been divided into two contracts in order to speed up construction. The first contract covers 14 km of Al Meydan Street, which is between Latifa bint Hamdan Street and Umm Suqeim Street. This is along with Al Marabea’ Street from Dubai Hills to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
This includes a grade-separated interchange at the intersection of Al Marabea’ and Al Meydan streets. The bridge, as a result, would stretch 1600 m and feature four lanes in each direction. This would take the interchange capacity up to 14,400 vehicles per hour in both directions. Not only this, but a three-lane direct connection would also connect Al Marabea’ Street and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. Additionally, a 700 m elevated link on the Dubai-Al Ain Road would end up improving access to Nad Al Sheba. It would also connect the area with Dubai’s wider road network

2nd Contract Covers Al Meydan Street From First Al Khail Street Through Al Khail Road
Coming to the second contract, this covers Al Meydan Street from First Al Khail Street through Al Khail Road to Muscat Street. For those who are wondering, this is along the two km of the new surface roads which connect Al Meydan Street and Latifa bint Hamdan Street. In fact, this also includes the conversion of the Al Meydan Street-Muscat Street intersection into a multi-level interchange. The interchange would have 1400 m of bridges and four lanes in each direction with a capacity of up to 14,400 vehicles per hour. The project would also include cycling underpasses that would be beneath Al Meydan Street in order to maintain a continuous and safe connection with the existing cycling network across Dubai.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that this project is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2028.
