Mumbai’s Bandra Reclamation Promenade is a favourite among locals for its open sea views, breezy walks and laid-back evenings by the waterfront. However, the popular spot has now caught attention after parts of the promenade were recently barricaded. According to reports, construction and beautification work is underway in the area. Here’s everything you need to know.

Mumbai’s Bandra Reclamation Promenade To Get A Makeover?

According to a Hindustan Times report, parts of Mumbai’s Bandra Reclamation Promenade have been barricaded by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) for the past four days. MSRDC said the barricading is temporary and linked to construction and beautification work proposed by the Mumbai Slum Improvement Board under MHADA.

Documents accessed by HT show that the project had been in the works for several months. The Slum Improvement Board had sought an NOC from MSRDC in May for the proposed development. MSRDC later asked the board to submit location sketches and maps detailing the planned work. After the required documents and plans were submitted, the NOC was issued, paving the way for the work to begin.

Here’s What We Know So Far

The Bandra Reclamation Promenade has long been a popular spot for residents, with people using it for evening walks while children gathered at the play area. The open-air gymnasium, HT reported, has already been removed as part of the ongoing work.

A senior MSRDC official told Hindustan Times that a covered shed is currently being constructed along the pathway as part of the additional beautification work. The official said the existing facilities will remain and the promenade will be reopened to the public once the work is completed.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the loss of open spaces in Bandra Reclamation. Residents say the promenade and nearby football ground are vital public spaces in an area that is rapidly urbanising and facing increasing development pressure.
