Cyclone Dana is intensifying and is expected to lash over Odisha and West Bengal on October 24 and 25. Governments of both states have started taking precautionary measures along with evacuating residents living in coastal areas. Railways Cancelled Over 300 Trains Due To Cyclone Dana
Several places in Odisha and West Bengal started receiving rainfall on Wednesday. According to the weather forecast, the weather conditions are about to worsen with a severe storm hitting areas in both states. Ahead of these adverse weather updates disrupting people’s journeys, Indian Railways called off more than 300 scheduled trains.
According to a report by The Indian Express, South Eastern Railway cancelled journeys of over 150 express and passenger trains scheduled to operate from October 23 to 25. Depending on the changing weather and Cyclone Dana’s updates, more trains may get cancelled. As of now, South Eastern Railway stopped Howrah-Bhubaneswar Shatabdi Express, Howrah-Puri Shatabdi Express, Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Express, Howrah-Yesvantpur Express, and Kamakhya-Yesvantpur AC Express, among others.
Eastern Railways cancelled trains on these routes: Bengaluru-Guwahati, Dibrugarh-Kanniyakumari, Kolkata-Puri, Patna-Ernakulam, Puri-Kolkata, and more.
On the other hand, East Coast Railways cancelled 198 trains. These trains were scheduled to depart from Odisha and traverse via the state. Some of these trains were about to travel on these routes:
- Howrah-Bhubaneswar
- Howrah-Puri
- Kamakhya-Bengaluru
- Kharagpur-Villupuram
- New Delhi-Bhubaneswar
- Shalimar-Hyderabad
- Shalimar-Puri
Updates About The Cyclonic Storm
- Cyclone Dana is likely to intensify to 100-110 kmph.
- Massive downpours and strong winds are expected to harshly affect parts of Odisha.
- The cyclone is predicted to make landfall between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port in Odisha. The timing for the occurrence has been forecast starting from Thursday night to Friday morning.
- Schools will remain closed in 14 districts in Odisha from Wednesday to Friday.
- In West Bengal, schools in nine districts will be shut from Tuesday to Friday.
- Fishermen have been cautioned to avoid going to the sea ahead of Cyclone Dana.
