Amidst the festive season, Cyclone Sitrang has battered the Northeast with heavy rainfall. And the after-effects are devastating! The cyclone damaged telecommunication networks, standing crops & more. Meanwhile, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rain across the region. Read on to know about the details.
IMD Predictions Came True For NorthEast
IMD has recently predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, northeast Assam and isolated heavy rainfall over remaining parts of Assam, Meghalaya & Nagaland. Following this, several areas of Guwahati remained waterlogged. IMD also informed about Arunachal Pradesh and north Assam witnessing moderate to very heavy rainfall. Soon after authorities warned people to stay indoors.
As predicted by IMD, strong wind speed reaching 25-35 kmph gusting to 45 kmph prevailed over south Assam and adjoining Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura. Along with this, dry weather prevailed over most parts of Northwest & central India. Take a look:

A user complains about the heavy rainfall and writes, “Rains feel good only when roads be okay. Here, every drop adds to blocked drains and muddy streets! Northeast is on alert for “Cyclone Sitrang” with several flights and trains cancelled. Umbrella is a must today. Perhaps a cup of coffee adds to all the good. Too much rain though.” Another writes, “Here in Arunachal effect of cyclone sitrang set on bay of Bengal hv our ruined Diwali..
