Dating Back To The 17th Century, Bansilalpet Stepwell In Hyderabad Blends Modernity And Heritage Beautifully

Bansilalpet Stepwell

Stepwells are a very common phenomenon in India. It traces its existence back to the Indus Valley Civilization, when wells were dug deep and, for practical reasons, had steps. For all those people who do not know, stepwells, as their name suggests, are wells that have steps descending into them. The Bansilalpet stepwell in Hyderabad went through a restoration process and is now one of the most beautiful heritage spots in Hyderabad.

Bansilalpet Stepwell In Hyderabad Shines In Its Old Glory

Bansilal Stepwell in Hyderabad is a 17th century stepwell that, over the course of four decades, was turned into a dumpyard. The stepwell was unearthed by relocating the families that resided here and removing more than 2,000 tonnes of debris. The entire stepwell was restored over the last year to its original glory. Architectural firm Kshetra Consultants carried out this project, which was executed by The Rain Water Project.

The project would not have been possible without the support of the Municipal Administration, the Gandipet Welfare Society, and the Urban Development (MAUD) Department of Telangana. This entire process took about 13 months, and the result is simply mesmerising. The newly restored stepwell was inaugurated by Telangana Municipal Administration Minister K. T. Rama Rao. While inaugurating this stepwell, Rao promised that more than 43 stepwells would be developed.
